Computer and High-Tech Industry
Computer and high-tech facilities are special pest management challenge because no insect or animal pests feed on the actual electronic equipment. Pests invading electronic equipment can cause extensive and expensive damage. Insects walking across computer circuitry can cause short circuits and other serious problems. Fecal dropping, urine, and other body fluids can damage circuit boards. Rodents can cause mechanical to sensitive materials by gnawing and jamming moving pieces.
With the increasing use of computers, tablets, and other types of electronics, pest management professionals must become familiar with how they do their jobs around this highly sensitive equipment.
Computer and high-tech facilities are at risk for many pests because
- electronic equipment often provides ideal harborage (warmth, darkness, and protection) for such as cockroaches
- pests cannot use the material inside electronics as a food source and they must leave the equipment periodically to obtain food and moisture
- movement of food from surrounding areas into the facilities many computer rooms are housed in areas originally designed for other purposes.
