Pest Management and Environmental Sustainability
In urban commercial pest management, sustainable pest management applies to an integrated approach like structural engineering involving international LEED certification for green buildings and its architectural design to prevent pests and create a clean and green environment.
Other factors like the existing designs of the facility to implement habitat modification to avoid pest breeding. Non-chemical treatments use physical, and mechanical traps, glue boards, etc., to trap and remove the pest in the environment. Adopting the humane method for feral cats and wildlife animals including snake control aligned with the municipality regulatory process enables more sustainable pest management using trapping, use of deterrents, and keeping the environment pest free.
Using bio-rational pest management using pheromone traps to interfere in population development. Application of juvenile hormone mimics like insect growth regulator (IGR) to target the specific pest’s young developmental stages, not to complete their growth by keeping them young and die without a chance for the further life cycle. As an example, using bacterial protein crystals to target young stages of larvae of mosquitoes and midges by killing them.
Also, the current digital pest management using remote monitoring of rodents and insects become possible with smart sensor traps with the advantage of the chemical-free, time-saving, precise point of activity alert to attend to any trapped animal and prevent any public health disease infection of dead animals. All rodent or insect smart traps are integrated through the digital application so we can pinpoint the sites of activity and quickly attend the site. This provides a lot of relief to facility users and pest control operators. In ETS sustainable pest management, environmental sustainability is also integrated with the sanitization process and cleaning using eco-friendly disinfectants. The result is a healthy and happy life for humans.
